It's hip to be a Pearl (Huey Lewis & the News)
Apologies for the untidy-looking lint particles on the velvet backdrop! can't find my lint remover. This is a slightly more playful take on the usually docile and dripping-with-decorum pearl bi-cones. I've chosen to mix two tonal colours in order to bring out the youthfulness of pearls. Who says pearls can't be hip?!?
Our Mother Earth
Second up for the collection is an ode to one of my favourite themes - Nature. Bought a couple of colorful Peruvian drops in Queenstown. I gave this to my mom, who although is not as huge a nature lover as my dad, is always game enough to join us on our public holiday expeditions to Sungei Buloh, fish farms, chicken farms, you get the idea :)
Snow White
Kicking off Huil's Spring/Summer 2006 collection is this pair of elegant ebony-white Rose Czech tubes. They were bought in Queenstown, New Zealand. The twirly connecting bits and all others are locally bought though. These earrings are for my colleague Hema - white for genuinity (is there such a word?), and roses for a sweet disposition (don't gag, HA). Happy 25th!

Project Runway On Earlobes
Greetings from the creator of this blog, who has neglected "OH HUIL!" completely for the past three months. Many apologies to all faithful banner-waving (needn't be shy, just admit) readers like you who have returned to this site time and time again, only to discover an obvious stagnation in design creations! Huil's excuse is that she has been too caught up with a million and one things. January was half spent in New Zealand, whilst February was entirely consumed by matters of an office nature. However, you'll be pleased (hopefully) to hear that Huil will be heading to Bangkok in just abit to hunt down more raw materials for her 2006 Spring/Summer collection. [I've always wanted to say that!] Essential must-haves on her shopping list would be Extra-Long earring sticks (proper name unknown), just so that her Peruvian beads procured from NZ can find their homes in 'em, plus she will also be keeping her eyes peeled for any cool VINTAGE materials. Huil is thinking, maybe, just maybe some Victorian vintage for this new collection? :)

Fossil
i bet everyone's thinking this huil has run out of names to call her creations. not so, i assure you! this is called fossil because the dual-tone color of the glass beads reminds me of fossilized insects stuck in the amber slabs. brown/bronze/metallic bronze/orangey-yellow tones are highly attractive colors to me. they are my automatic casualizer tool. if you don't know what casualizer means, please ask me.
Barbarella
remember goldilocks, the pinkish/chocolatey/golden earrings i designed 2 months ago? meet barbarella, her cousin from space. i've made two pairs of these for my cousins hui ting and chuin wei. somehow, this creation gives me a very different feel from goldie. i think this pair has a more "i know what i want" aura i.e. suitable for the archetypal modern-day young lady who knows what she wants and does not hesitate to go out and get it. wo-man power. *rawr*
Cassandra in ShanghaiLand
this one is for my cousin Cassie, whom i have also witnessed the transformation of young duckling to graceful swan. i feel these colors complement each other very well, and bring out the sweetness and vigour of youth. ahh, the anticipation of an 8month pre-university break - make the best out of it you! p.s. isn't the shanghai suzie backdrop PERFECT!?! mom brought it back from china, and as usual, karangguni me decided to stash it away just in case i might need it someday. well, whaddya know?

Your Summer Ride is a Mini Cooper |
You are all about unique, one of a kind adventures. The only thing predictable about your summer is that it's unpredictable! |
You Are Somewhat Machiavellian |
You're not going to mow over everyone to get ahead... But you're also powerful enough to make things happen for yourself. You understand how the world works, even when it's an ugly place. You just don't get ugly yourself - unless you have to! |

You Should Learn French |
C'est super! You appreciate the finer things in life... wine, art, cheese, love affairs. You are definitely a Parisian at heart. You just need your tongue to catch up... |

Holly Golightly
I hesitated for a good 3 minutes before deciding to de-saturate Holly Golightly. I was afraid that it wouldn't do her justice. but am pleased with how she has turned out - this is very nicely de-saturated (in my opinion), and i've achieved the atmosphere i intended to create: Martini-soaked parties thrown in Manhattan apartments circa 1940s New York. how unabashedly pretentious.
Jade Empress
Cool aquamarine greens make me think of perhentian island's crystal clear waters, and the maldives. i went to the maldives when i was a kid of 5 or 6, so alot of it is hazy memory, but do i remember my first-ever snorkelling adventure with my dad in those amazing waters! funny how i used to take trips like that for granted. well, not anymore :)

Impending Change of Address
With effect from 1 Dec 2005, Huil will be migrating her beloved online gallery to another den ala kediaman on the Internet. As such, buckybuckaroo.blogspot.com will cease to exist. No need for buckets of tears at this sad news, but there is a need for you to make note of this url change in a month's time. Please. More details akan datang. - HUIL.

Bucky Buckaroo Takes A Break
Last I spoke with Bucky, she said she would be away somewhere in the Middle East for two weeks. When asked if she was going to be creating anything during that time, this was what Bucky told me: "No, I won't be coming up with anything new during these two weeks. But, be sure to check back with me after I get back. I'm pretty sure after these two weeks, I would have seen, smelled, met and tasted enough new experiences and people to dream me up a good couple of smouldering-shisha-smokin' designs!"
Thus said Bucky Buckaroo. - AFP

Oriental Giraffe
If you are wondering why there is only a solitary half being made, the answer is here: I got lazy. Do you know how long it takes to create a pair of earrings?? Depending on how intricate i want it - a pair can take me up to three or four hours. I started work on this pair, with the aim of creating a looooong, dangle-until-your-shoulders effect. I guess if any of you want this pair, I can persevere on and complete the other half... but you gotta promise me that you'll wear it often, please!
